The longest day of the year is called the summer solstice and the shortest day is called the winter solstice.
In the Northern Hemisphere, the summer solstice is usually observed on June 21 and the winter solstice around December 21.
There are two days in the year when day and night are of equal duration. These days are called equinox days.
The summer solstice occurs when one hemisphere of the Earth tilts the most towards the sun and receives maximum sunlight.
